Chasing the dream
Medical school, far from home
That dream took her far from home, all the way to Ukraine, where she studied medicine and began building the future she had always imagined for herself.
A new chapter
A new country, the same dream
Years later, Gagan moved to Canada with her family. Becoming a physician in a new country meant licensing exams, post-graduate training and years of hard work still ahead.
Rather than wait for the dream to unfold, she embraced the life in front of her. She worked, studied, found her way around a new country and its culture, and grew more independent, all while working toward the career she had always wanted.

A boy from Campbellton
Brandon had moved from Campbellton, New Brunswick with his family and made Halifax home too. He was studying to become an accountant and working hard to build a life of his own.
Then their paths crossed, while both were briefly working at McDonald’s. Neither of them knew that this ordinary part of their lives would become the beginning of something extraordinary.
Building a life together
Side by side
What began as two people finding their feet slowly became a life they built side by side. They worked hard, grew together, held on to each other through the uncertain moments and celebrated every little victory along the way.
In time, Gagan became a family physician and a professor, and Brandon rose from manager, to accountant, to Chief Financial Officer at McDonald’s.
But before the degrees, the careers and the home, they were simply two people working toward their dreams, and learning how to build a life together.
The question
And she said yes
And then one day, Brandon got down on one knee and asked Gagan to marry him.
And she said yes.
Two cultures, two celebrations
One Canadian, one Indian
To honour both of their roots, they chose to celebrate twice: a Canadian wedding and an Indian wedding, bringing their two worlds, their traditions and their families together.

And now, home to Patiala
From Patiala, to Ukraine, to Canada, and now back home to Patiala. 22,221 kilometres later, the thread comes home, where two people who once met by chance bring two families together.
